When I left college I was eager to begin my career in an internationally successful company with the opportunities to develop both my personal and professional skills. The Ornua Graduate Programme provides both an exceptional environment to work in and great personal development modules. The best thing about being an Ornua graduate is the exposure you get. In the short time I have been in the company I have had so many great opportunities most people may never get. My ambition is to continue my career with Ornua as I am eager to develop my hands-on experience and grow my leadership abilities. The company has given me the platform and I know that the opportunities are there for me to reach my goals.
I studied Commerce in UCC and in my fourth year I majored in Food Business. I was then lucky enough to get a position on the Ornua Graduate Programme. The fact that Ornua is a globally recognised Irish co-operative really appealed to me; having lived abroad before it makes you all the more passionate about ensuring the success of home-grown organisations. As part of the Middle East Foodservice Sales and Marketing Team, I get to visit customers and do product testing frequently. It is great exposure to the market and gives an in-depth insight into customer preferences and trends that just can’t be gained from sitting at a desk all day. The experience I am currently gaining from living and working in Dubai is indescribable. Events like the Gulfood Expo have made networking and strengthening relationships all the easier. My next challenge is to leverage my experiences gained to date to reach my goals in Ornua.
B.Sc. Food Marketing and Entrepreneurship
M.Sc. Food Business Strategy
I grew up on a dairy farm and have always loved everything to do with food and agriculture. I saw the Ornua Graduate Programme as a great opportunity to work closely with people who had been in the industry for years (mentors and managers). This level of exposure is rare in other entry level jobs and the chance to learn from, and be guided by these people on a day to day basis is invaluable. I was also drawn to the international nature of the business; there are not many Irish food companies that can boast such a large portfolio. The chance to potentially travel also really stood out to me. I’ve really enjoyed my time in Ornua; from the day I met my fellow graduates and realised that they were the kind of people I could see myself becoming friends with, to the day I flew out to the US and met the team here in Ornua Ingredients North America. The best days for me are when you see that projects you’re working on are actually influencing the decisions of those around you. Having my opinion/recommendations heard and valued is very rewarding.
